Introducing Autodesk Maya by Dariush Derakhshani – PDF Drive
Written by renowned author and 3D artist, Kelly L. Murdock, Autodesk Maya Basics Guide is designed to give new users a solid understanding of the fundamental skills needed to create beautiful 3D models and stunning animations with Autodesk Maya. Using clear and easy to follow instructions this book will guide you through learning all the major features of Maya.
The text is complemented by accompanying video instruction that s included with each book. Each chapter has a corresponding video tutorial that introduces you to the topics and allows you to watch and learn how functions are performed in a way that a text alone cannot do. Autodesk Maya Basics Guide makes no assumptions about your previous experience with Autodesk Maya.
It begins by helping you get comfortable with the user interface and navigating scenes before moving into modeling, texturing, lighting, animating, rendering and more. Additionally, more advanced features such as character rigging, skinning, animating with dynamics and MEL scripting are also introduced. Each chapter begins by examining the concept behind each task, the goal and the necessary features that are involved.
Then you go in-depth with the objective of your task as you study examples and learn the steps necessary to complete it. Working your way through the comprehensive, step-by-step lessons, you’ll develop the confidence you need to create incredible renderings and animations using Autodesk Maya.
This text was created specifically for users with no prior 3D modeling or animation experience. If you want to work in a creative field or are just curious about how 3D animated movies are made this book is the perfect way to get started. Users who are migrating from another 3D application or upgrading from a previous version of Maya will also benefit greatly from this text.

I’m sure the author knows something about Maya but where was the publishing team, the layout designer, the copy editor, etc. Also, there are dozens of mistakes where the wrong term is used or there is an obvious grammatical error and garbled sentences.
Something’s wrong on nearly every other page. The illustrations are mostly poor and don’t always show what’s being discussed. The overlaid graphics are inconsistently constructed with crude jagged lines in a computer graphics book! The examples are often too simple, displaying a lack of effort. But the worst problem is that the book is way over priced for such an obviously cheap product. I definitely do not recommend this book. The cover is nice though. I can say that the book does briefly touch on all the main features of Maya.
I like how the lessons are NOT painfully long and the lessons are fairly easy. BUT they never really tell what kind of object that they making to better understand the outcome of the lesson, they would say “create a shape” but what kind of shape?!!
Great book very informative I’m only a beginner but it’s very detailed making it easy to follow with step by step instructions. It also has a companion DVD that you can download the files to work along with them. I’m really dyslexic and this was very easy to read with full color images supporting the instructions. Great book highly recommend it. This is the type of Mind numbing micro learning. This is the type of book you do exercises at a time. Close and come back a week later.
Book was great, but took awhile to get to me :. One person found this helpful. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. Great book, with exercises to follow along. Report abuse. Pages with related products. See and discover other items: autodesk maya.
